Who we are

Good Houses is a UK website. It is not a limited company; Good Houses is a trading name. You can contact us about anything on this page at privacy@goodhouses.co.uk.

What we collect, and why

Using a calculator

Nothing is stored. The calculation runs and your answers are discarded. A record is only created if you explicitly ask us to email, save or share a result, in which case we hold the result and the email address you gave us.

Submitting a real cost

We store what the job cost, the property details, and your written answers. We store the outcode only, which is the first half of your postcode, never the full one, so a submission cannot be traced back to an individual address. Your email address is optional, is used only to contact you about your submission, and is never published. We also record the IP address the submission came from, to detect automated abuse of the form.

Photographs of your work

Photographs are optional. Every photograph you upload is rebuilt from its pixels before it is stored, which removes the metadata a camera or phone writes into the file. That includes GPS coordinates, which on a photograph of your own home would otherwise reveal your address. Photographs are held in private storage and are served only while the submission they belong to is approved.

Asking for a quote

This is the part of the site where your details may reach another business, so it is worth reading properly.

When you complete a quote form we collect your name, email address, telephone number, your full postcode, and your answers about the work you want done. What happens next depends on the service and where you are.

The form tells you which of these applies before you submit, and names the partner where there is one. We record the exact wording you agreed to, along with the time and the IP address, so there is a record of what you consented to. We do not pass your details to anyone you were not told about.

Newsletter

We store your email address and the wording of the consent you gave, with the time and IP address. You are only added to the list once you click the link in the confirmation email. Every email we send carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing takes effect immediately.

Accounts, partners and the image service

If you create an account, or your business becomes a partner or advertiser, we hold the contact and business details you give us and the records of what you have bought or been invoiced for. Photographs sent to our image editing service are held only for as long as the job requires.

Contacting us for support

We keep the message you sent and the address you sent it from, so we can reply and keep a record of the conversation.

Technical data

Our servers keep ordinary request logs, including IP addresses, for security and fraud prevention.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it for anyone else's advertising.
